Nursing and Educational Staff
The care and supervision of patients in the Northern German Epilepsy Center is carried out by trained nurses, educational supervisors and a special education teacher.
Nursing Care
Nursing Guidelines:
The guidelines for our nursing care are laid down in the Code of Ethics for Nurses (International Council of Nurses).
Nurses have four fundamental responsibilities:
- to promote health
- to prevent illness
- to restore health
- to alleviate suffering
Inherent to nursing is respect for human rights, including the right to life and dignity and to be treated with respect.
Nursing Objectives:
We orientate ourselves to the nursing paradigm of Monika Krohwinkel. Our nursing objective is the preservation, advancement or recovery of autonomy, well-being and quality of life in those in need of care in activities of their day-to-day living.
Quality of Care:
Ensuring and improving the quality of nursing care in our clinic is an additional objective of our caregiving. We reach this through:
- the implementation of nursing procedures and the use of suitable documentation systems
- the developement, application and monitoring of caregiving standards
- nurse-patient pairing whenever possible
- continuing education, as needed
- participation in quality circles
- regular audits as part of our quality control
Duties of Nursing Care:
Providing professional nursing care means that we are there for the children and adolescents and their next of kin as supervisors, instructors, advisors, and as mediators. At the same time, we adapt the support and supervision to the particular needs of each patient. The close cooperation within our interdisciplinary team as well as the contact with the parents and relatives all contribute to the best possible care for the children and adolescents.
Educational Care
During the inpatient treatment of epileptic patients and as part of our interdisciplinary treatment concept, we cater to the different physical, psychological and social needs of each patient. In addition to medical care, diagnostics and treatment in the Northern German Epilepsy Center require intensive, accompanying educational consultation, supervision and attention to special needs.
Educational Objective:
The main objective of social education measures is cultivating and developing the individuality and self-acceptance in the children and adolescents with regards to their attaining a degree of autonomy in shaping their own lives.
Educational Offerings:
We offer 3 forms of educational assistance:
- work in groups or
- individually
- and social education assistance as part of our offerings for parents
Our offerings are geared toward the individual and current needs of the children and adolescents.
